So based on Lauren Daigle’s interview on the Ellen show, I am moved to write this. Normally, I won’t respond to this but I’m beginning to think it’s vital for fellow Christians to understand why certain Christians believe what they do.
Firstly, I love Lauren’s songs. I have all her songs on my Spotify so this was kind of a little touchy to read and write. But hey, the truth which is the word of God must be shared.
My response to Lauren
It’s okay to love the homosexual friends in your life. We must show them love as well as the path to RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Here’s the scripture to back this up:
“For this reason God gave them over and abandoned them to vile affections and degrading passions. For their women exchanged their natural function for an unnatural and abnormal one, And the men also turned from natural relations with women and were set ablaze (burning out, consumed) with lust for one another–men committing shameful acts with men and suffering in their own bodies and personalities the inevitable consequences and penalty of their wrong-doing and going astray, which was [their] fitting retribution.”
Romans 1:26-27 AMPC
Why this is a sin?
1. It’s unnatural. God made Adam and Eve for each other, anything outside that realm is sin.
2. The Holy Spirit cannot dwell in a mind filled with lust. Just like fornication and adultery. Sin is sin.
3. It’s a degrading passion. God respects marriage. When a man marries a woman (who becomes his wife), there’s favour and multiplication (children) through the natural passion. God created marriage for passion as well as other things. Again, it’s unnatural to be passionate with the opposite sex.
Homosexuality and lying
So let’s get this straight. Homosexuality is not a different kind of terrible sin. If you tell a lie, you are same as a homosexual. No sin is greater with God.
Of course! Just like the adulterer you know, you don’t love them any less. You love the person but hate the sin. Do not condone or encourage what they’re doing. You don’t need God to explicitly tell you that it’s sin, the Holy Spirit dwells in your heart and will convict you.
I hope you understand that this is not about conforming to a certain standard of Christianity but this is the basis of our existence. Christ came to deliver us from the bondage of sin which includes homosexuality. God can deliver your friends too. So don’t be ashamed to say you love your friends but hate what they do. However, before you do, make sure you are cleansed in the blood so you won’t be judging them for something you are not.
